Is it worth it?
A Trip Pass costs $9.99 for two weeks, around the price of one side dish. On a holiday of fourteen days you will read something like thirty menus. If it saves you from one dish you didn't want, one surprise "++" on the bill, or one evening eating at the tourist place because it had an English menu, it has paid for itself.
Fair use
"Unlimited" means up to 40 scans in any 24 hours. That is far more than anybody eats, and the limit is there only to stop automated abuse. Failed scans never count.

PayPal converts to your own currency at checkout if you pay from overseas. Business traveller? Your PayPal receipt and our emailed receipt both work for expense claims.
Pricing questions
Point your phone's camera at a menu and tap (or upload photos, up to 6 pages at once). In a few seconds the whole menu appears in your language, organised by category, with every dish explained and every price shown both as printed and in your home currency. Tap dishes to build your order, add notes like "no peanuts" by typing or speaking, then show the waiter your order in their own language, or let them scan its QR code.
No. swap.menu runs in your phone's browser: Safari, Chrome, anything modern. Add it to your home screen and it opens full-screen like an app, straight into the camera.
Menus in virtually any language and script, including Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Arabic, Greek, Russian, European languages and more. We translate into 29 languages and convert into any major currency at a daily exchange rate. If a menu adds tax or service on top (the "++" you see in Bali, Singapore or Malaysia), we tell you and add it to your total.
Very good on clear, well-lit photos, and every price is shown exactly as printed beside the conversion so you can check it at a glance. It is an AI reading a photo, so it can occasionally misread a faded or handwritten line, but you can correct any dish in your saved menu. Dietary hints like Vegetarian or Spicy are a guide only: always confirm allergies with the staff.
Your first 3 menu scans are free, with no card required. After that, a travel pass gives you unlimited scans for its length, from $4.99. You pay once through PayPal. Nothing renews, and no card is kept on file.
Everything you scanned and ordered stays in your account for good: your menus, your orders and your history. Only new AI scans stop until you pick another pass. There is no automatic renewal and nothing to cancel.
Yes, that is the point. Your order is shown in the restaurant's own language, with a polite "I would like to order" phrase, the original dish names as printed and your notes translated into their language. Show them the QR code: they scan it with their own phone, tablet or ordering device and the whole order opens on their screen, ready to key in. They tap Confirm, and your phone shows that the kitchen has it. No talking needed. You can also just hand them your phone.
They are stored privately in your account so you can look back at them, and are sent to Google's Gemini AI only to read the menu. They are never public and never sold. Delete any menu (or your whole account) at any time and the photos go with it.
Scanning needs a data connection, because the reading is done by AI in the cloud. Once a menu is on your screen you can browse it and build your order even if the signal drops; your order saves the moment you are back online.
